The Greatest Showman

Have you seen this movie?  If not, pack up your kids and take them!  It’s seriously great.  Even my youngest enjoyed it. The music and choreography are incredible and it’s got a great message about how sometimes you need to stop wanting more and just learn to be satisfied with what you have. This is a conversation I feel like I have with my kids all the time (and usually goes in one ear and out the other) but I’m hoping this helped hammer it home a little.  Highly recommend this film!

Happy MLK Day!

Of all the quotes I looked through of his I felt like this one seems the most relatable to our current political climate.

A good reminder....

Just a good reminder that I feel like all moms need. Especially as we are about to start another busy week.

Hope everyone has a good one!

The possum...

About a week ago I started smelling something when I was in our kitchen nook. I could not for the life of me figure out what is was or where it was coming from. And it just got worse and worse. It finally occurred to me that I think something may have died under our house. We have a pier and beam foundation and it’s gotten very cold in Dallas. I thought maybe something got stuck or who knows?  Enter the exterminator. Bless this guys heart as he comes and crawls under our house when it’s 30 degrees outside. Brett and I were sitting in the living room while he was under there and you could hear the shuffling and movement. All of a sudden we hear this shout and a muffled, “it’s a live one!”  He finally comes back up and confirms that he did indeed find a live possum underneath our house but that wasn’t what the smell was. He thinks perhaps it had babies and one of them didn’t make it. The problem is that the smell is coming from a little section that he can’t get to. So what are our options?  1) live with it until it decomposes completely (which because of the cold could be up to 6 weeks) or 2) spend like $6000 to tear up our floors and go after it that way. Guess which option we chose?

I’ve got about 4 different air purifiers going round the clock, candles, air deodorizers and even put dryer sheets in the vents. And it still smells!!!  It’s going to be a long 6 weeks.

They did lay a trap for the live possum and as we came home New Year’s Eve look what was there!

I actually feel kinda bad for the poor thing. I was promised that he wouldn’t be killed but relocated to the lake. So I hope he enjoys his new lake front home more than the crawl space in my house!

Happy New Year!

We went to our friends the LaRose’s house with kids this year to celebrate New Years. The kids all have fun playing together (and there’s usually a fairly low level of drama which is always good). They had fun putting on dances for us as this group loves to perform!

We brought sparklers we had leftover from the 4th of July and the older kids had fun with that. Even though it was FREEZING outside.

After sparklers we did a fake midnight countdown (thanks Netflix!) for the kids so they would go upstairs and watch a movie and let us have a little bit of adult time. Camie bought a super cute cake and it was yummy!

Then it was cards against humanity time until Hayden was begging to go home. We did at least make it to midnight and Avery ended up staying the night. All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to a awesome 2018!

Happy New Year!!!
